2011 RIDE FOR NEW BEGINNINGS INFORMATION

To:  Bike Rider and Support Team Candidates
From:  Bill Schlameuss, Chairperson of Ocean's Harbor House Ride Committee
Re:  Application for 2011 Ride

Greetings! The Ride Committee has planned our 15th annual ride to raise critical funds needed for Ocean’s Harbor House – the only shelter in Ocean and Monmouth Counties helping homeless  and runaway teens. This charity ride is the major fundraising event for this shelter. We will again offer 3 ride options for this event – a 5-day, 3-day and 1-day ride.

The 2011 ride officially begins on Tuesday, July 5, when 5-day participants will begin their trek by bussing to Annapolis MD and cycling from Annapolis on July 6 through Delaware, Pennsylvania and central New Jersey.  In addition to the 5-day ride, we will offer a 3-day ride, transporting 3-day participants on July 7 to join the ride in Lancaster, PA. Those riders will begin cycling on July 8. We will also offer a 1-day fun ride on July 10th where participants will start out from Windward Beach and join the last leg of the ride with all other participants to finish together at the Welcome Home Celebration. The celebration will be conducted at Windward Beach Park in Brick, NJ.

Summarized details of the 2011 ride options are as follows:

  • 5-day, approximately 400-miles, departing July 5 in motorized transportation to Annapolis and cycling on July 6 through Delaware, Pennsylvania and central New Jersey. Cycling concludes July 10.
  • 3-day, approximately 250 miles, departing Toms River July 7 via ride-sponsored transportation to Lancaster. Cycling begins July 8 and concludes July 10.
  • 1-day, 25-mile fun ride, July 10, to and from Windward Beach Park.

All interested candidates for the 5and 3day ride must complete the enclosed application and return it with the non-refundable registration fee by March 1, 2011.  All applications that are postmarked after March 1, 2011 will need to include a $25.00 late registration fee. Applications for the one day ride will be accepted up to and including the morning of the ride on July 10.

All checks should be made payable to Oceans Harbor House Foundation, Inc.  Applications are to be mailed to:
Ocean’s Harbor House Foundation
Attn:  HH400 - Ride for New Beginnings
P. O. Box 1714
Toms River, New Jersey 08754

Please note: all riders must be at least 18 years of age. Selection of participants is limited and based on many factors, of which the ability and willingness to contribute to the ride’s financial success are the most important. All 3- and 5-day participants are required to raise $750 in pledges. One-day participants are required to raise $100 in pledges. The cost of hotel accommodations and transportation is paid by Ocean’s Harbor House Foundation, Inc. All other expenses, such as meals and phone calls are the responsibility of each individual on the ride.  You will be notified of your acceptance for the 5 and 3 day ride by mid-March. Once accepted, your registration fee is not refundable.

All new riders for the 5- and 3-day ride, returning veteran riders who did not participate in or complete the 2010 Ride, and new support team members must (and veteran riders should):

  • Participate in two mandatory training rides
  • Attend an orientation meeting in March 2011, date and time to be determined.
  • Attend a final ride meeting in June, date and time to be determined.

We look forward to your participation and to another safe and even more successful ride. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call me at
