cell phone fundraising program

For those of you who haven't already heard, Ocean's Harbor House has begun a cell phone fundraising program. Proceeds from the collection efforts will be applied to the renovation of our youth shelter bedrooms, in an effort to make them feel more personal, and home-like. If this program becomes as successful as I hope, we can then look at other agency needs that will directly impact the youth.

Donating a used, unwanted cell phone allows community members to donate to an important cause without reaching into their wallets. With the hundreds of thousands of used cell phones sitting idly in our community, the fundraising potential is almost limitless.

Ocean's Harbor House has partnered with Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net), a Miramar, Florida firm that specializes in the logistics and underwriting of fundraising programs through the collection and responsible recycling of used cellular phones. Shelter Alliance currently works with over 2000 social service organizations in 50 states and has contributed over $5,000,000 to participating organizations.

Ultimately, the process is very simple for us. We collect used and even damaged cell phones and batteries (No chargers or accessories please); I ship them out to Shelter Alliance; Shelter Alliance recycles the cell phones; and pays out a minimum of  50 cents per phone to Ocean's Harbor House.

At this point, I am asking if anyone has, or knows someone who has an unwanted cell phone, please bring it into Ocean's Harbor House. If you are not able to get it to the shelter location (2445 Windsor Avenue, Toms River) let me know and I will make arrangements to pick it up.
