It was thirty years ago on August 8, 1988 that Ocean’s Harbor House opened its shelter’s doors to homeless youth and began its mission that has been carried out for three decades: A Safe Haven for Youth.
Every month, children across New Jersey face the sudden and unexpected trouble of finding themselves homeless. It is a reality that no child or family ever wants to deal with. Ocean’s Harbor House has been providing a nurturing, stress-free environment for these children on a daily basis. The agency accomplishes this with a dedicated staff that operates two facilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Ocean’s Harbor House was founded by concerned citizens in Toms River and Ocean County that wanted to make a difference in children’s lives and attempt to solve the problem of homeless youth. Youth can reside in the shelter for up to thirty days, while others in the transitional living program may reside up to two years.
Ocean’s Harbor House serves youth from ages 10-21. The agency serves children in both Ocean and Monmouth Counties.
Leading the way is Executive Director John Piscal, “The 30th anniversary of Ocean’s Harbor House is the culmination of generations of our community members who saw a need to serve youth in distress in their community….and took action. The greatness of any community is most accurately measured by the compassionate action of its members. We celebrate the contributions of so many who made Ocean’s Harbor House a vital resource in our community.” Mr. Piscal’s innate leadership ability is not only used to motivate his staff, but also to act as a leader to youth who may be in crisis.
Board President of Ocean’s Harbor House Jarrett Lynn has been at the helm since the beginning of 2018: “I’m so very proud of the great work done by John and our staff for the youth of Ocean and Monmouth Counties. We are thankful for the ongoing support of the community, including Open Arms and countless others, who have helped to sustain Harbor House for three decades.”
Ocean’s Harbor House is celebrating its history with their Changing Lives Gala to be held on Friday, October 12th, 2018 at the Spring Lake Golf Club. Ticket information and more details are here: http://www.oceansharborhouse.org/event/oceans-harbor-house-gala/
