Annual Appeal 2018

When a youth in our community is in crisis, do you know where they go for help?

For over 30 years, the answer has been Ocean’s Harbor House.

Whether youth have been neglected, abandoned, abused, and/or are homeless, Ocean’s Harbor House is the place that they come to call “home.” Our donors have made Ocean’s Harbor House the safe haven for thousands of youth over the last 30 years. Our mission continues … and the challenges faced by the youth in our communities continue to grow.

  • The State of NJ estimates that nearly 60,000 grandparents in NJ are the primary caregivers for their grandchildren.
  • The opioid epidemic in our country has created a new term: “heroin orphans.” These are youth whose parents, because of addiction, can no longer care for their children.
  • 25% of the youth who age out of foster care are homeless within the year. The State of NJ ranks 9th in the nation in percentage of foster children per population.
These factors are increasing the need for our services and with your continued support, we are rising to meet these challenges. In the last 12 months, you have housed 144 youth at our Emergency Youth Shelter and Supervised Transitional Living Program facilities. When people ask us, “Where are these homeless youth in our community?” we respond by telling them that you see them every day, they are hidden right in your midst. The youth in our programs are students in your schools, participate in school activities, and have jobs at area businesses. Our youth are easy to recognize because they are the ones who are the most conscientious, caring, and generous.

On behalf of everyone at Ocean’s Harbor House whose lives you’ve enriched, we wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season and a healthy and Happy New Year.

Sincerely,
